Andryo moved to Melbourne in September 2024 and was renting again for the first time in nearly a decade. He had no feel for which suburbs were good, up-and-coming, or to avoid, and advice from colleagues was hard to weigh without local knowledge. A few kilometres can be a 30-minute drive, and trips between suburbs that don't run through the CBD are surprisingly slow. The data existed but was fragmented or hard to access, so he reverse-engineered Public Transport Victoria's tools, computed transit and cycling times over a ~15,000-point grid via the Google Routing API, and matched VCE results to public school catchments. He wrote it all up as the original guide post, because it would be a waste not to share. Nestfinder is that guide turned into a living tool: the same method, free, for everyone.
